Queensland Off-The-Track Retraining Services

Which horses are eligible to join the retraining program?

A horse that is eligible to participate in the Acknowledged Retrainers Program:

  1. Is a Thoroughbred or Standardbred that has been, or is eligible to be, register for thoroughbred racing or harness racing in Australia; and
  2. A decision has been made not to race the horse, or the horse has retired directly from racing, race training and/or breeding within the last twelve (12) months; and
  3. The horse has been sent directly to the Acknowledged Retrainer by the Managing Owner or his/her authorised agent (as per Racing Australia or Harness Racing Australia records); and
  4. The horse:
    1. Was bred in Queensland but was unraced; or
    2. Has started in an official barrier trial or race in Queensland, and was domiciled in Queensland at the time of its retirement; or
    3. Is a retired broodmare or stallion, and was domiciled in Queensland at the time of its retirement.

How do I place a horse in the retraining program?

If you have a racehorse that meets the criteria above – please reach out to Adrienne at On Fire Performance Horses and Training by any of the contact options listed on our website or socials.

If we don’t have space at On Fire Performance for an extra retraining horse at the time, we are able to pass your details, and that of your horse, on to our Queensland Off The Track Acknowledged Retrainers network for consideration.

Queensland Off The Track has committed to reimbursing (within reason) transport costs for retired racehorses to be transported to acknowledged retrainers, so location isn’t a barrier!

What will placing a horse in the retraining program cost?

Absolutely nothing!

That's right - retraining services are undertaken completely free of charge. Once you have decided to place a horse with an acknowledged retrainer, you will sign ownership of the horse over to the retrainer (either at no purchase price, or a negotiated price for the horse) - and that is where your responsibility will end.

You will be given the option of staying in touch to follow your horse's retraining journey - but there is no expectation that you stay involved.

Meet our team

Queensland Off-The-Track proudly introduces Adrienne Kelley as a QOTT Acknowledged Retrainer.

Adrienne’s love for horses developed from a young age, with most of her childhood years spent following her grandfather around, watching and learning all there was to know about starting and training horses. Since those moments, riding and training horses has been Adrienne’s passion in life, with Adrienne priding herself on producing calm and reliable horses based on her training motto “a focus on foundations lead to a future of success”.

With over 30 years of equestrian experience, Adrienne has taken a number of OTT thoroughbreds from the track through to top 10 placings at Pony Club Queensland State Championship level. An eventer at heart, but living over 500km from the next closest eventing course, has seen the need for Adrienne to branch out in her riding disciplines – participating in everything from dressage, showjumping, eventing, endurance, sporting, mustering cattle, trail riding, the occasional bout of horseback archery or working equitation, as well as riding as clerk-of-the-course for her local Jockey Club.

Adrienne is a staunch believer in the “all round horse” and in her role as a QOTT Acknowledged Retrainer, looks forward to showcasing the versatility of the OTT horse. Adrienne believes a well-rounded approach, establishing the basics on the ground prior to commencing further ridden work and understanding all aspects of equine welfare contributes to a horse’s long-term success in a future home.

“I am so passionate about the humble OTT horse. Retired thoroughbreds have always filled a large percentage of my stables, and my greatest achievements to date have always been with OTT partners. A focus on foundations leads to a future of success. I believe that by educating each horse with a solid foundation in each stage of the training journey, I am setting up both the horse, and the rider/s to come, for success.”

Adrienne’s property is located in Braemeadows with unlimited access to kilometres of trails which she regularly uses to train her horses. Adrienne is a Pony Club Queensland Level B Instructor, Official Showjumping Judge & Course Designer, Official Dressage & Jumping Equitation Judge, Official Technical Delegate (Horse Trials, Combined Training, Showjumping & Jumping Equitation), Pony Club Australia NCAS Level 1 Coach and BitBank Australia Accredited Bit Fitter.
